What is the Altitude?
Both Mountain Village and the Town of Telluride sit at ~9,000 ft, with our wedding venue up at ~10,500 feet.
While altitude sickness is very rare, high altitude can still cause mild symptoms in some folks that run the gamut from lack of appetite, to weakness, dizziness, fatigue, and difficulty sleeping. This means that there are a few rules to live by!
Stay Hydrated
This one is key. Plan to drink twice as much water as you would at sea level. Start hydrating at least two days before flying in to Telluride.
Pack Sunscreen & SPF Chapstick
The sun is POWERFUL in Telluride! Make sure to be prepared to avoid sunburn.
ONE DRINK = TWO OR THREE
Take it easy on the alcohol! Seriously, one drink at altitude will feel more like two or three. Highly recommend avoiding taking shots at this elevation — save that for sea level!
BOOST+ OXYGEN
You can pick up Boost+ Canned Oxygen at most gas stations and convenience stores in Colorado. This will help ease any effects from the altitude so consider picking some up if you are concerned about altitude sickness being an issue.
Medication
Be careful with sleep medication and medication from the benzodiazepine family, as both can result in lower blood oxygen levels.
Your doctor can prescribe acetazolamide, commonly known as Diamox, to prevent altitude sickness. Diamox is a preventative drug meaning you should take it BEFORE you start feeling headachy and nauseous. It will not ease symptoms as effectively once at altitude.
What is the Weather Like?
At an altitude of 8,700 to 10,500 feet, Telluride will be 10-20 degrees colder than the rest of the country, often with highs maxing out in the high 70s and getting into the 50s and upper 40s in the evening. Dressing in layers will help ensure you are prepared at all times.
When Should We Arrive in Telluride?
Getting to Telluride can take some time no matter what mode of transportation you choose so make sure you are planning accordingly. If you choose to make a vacation out of it, we would love for you to stick around after the wedding and join us on a SUP Board Tour (Monday, July 29)!
Should we bring the kids?
To allow all our guests to celebrate without worrying about little eyes and ears, we politely request no kids under the age of 15.
